Papaya Viet Restaurant | Our Story

Recipes from our mothers, made for everyone

Papaya started in 1997 with family recipes passed down from our mothers — the same spirit that carries us forward today. Pull up a chair; you’re part of the family.
Growing into the neighborhood

Growing into the neighborhood

Papaya began at Crossroads Shopping Center in Bellevue in 1997, with our mom bringing the family recipes she cooked at home into a restaurant kitchen for the first time. There was plenty to learn along the way. Years later, as she retired, Papaya was invited to join The Landing in Renton, followed by Sammamish Village in 2020—growing into new neighborhoods while carrying those recipes forward.
The food, then and now

The food, then and now

Our mom gave Papaya its beginning, but she didn’t build it alone. Over the years, the people who joined our kitchen became family too—bringing their experience, care, and craft to the recipes we started with and helping shape them for a restaurant that continued to grow. The phở, Bún Bò Huế, fresh rolls, and noodle salad bowls we serve today carry a little bit of everyone who helped Papaya become what it is.
What we're here for

What we're here for

Nearly three decades later, we’re still here by choice. Seeing generations grow up around our table—eating phở, learning to use chopsticks, and sharing the food we grew up with—reminds us why Papaya still matters. It’s how a family recipe becomes part of a community, and how a little piece of our culture carries forward. Thank you for sharing your meal with us. Thank you for sharing our culture. With gratitude, — The Papaya Family
